Tendinitis or Tendinosis
The term “tendinitis” literally means “inflammation of a tendon.” Tendinitis usually occurs as a result of overuse. It can occur in any tendon in the body, and causes significant pain, limitation of range of motion and weakness. Commonly affected tendons include the rotator cuff, Achilles tendon, patellar tendon and the common extensor wrist tendon (tennis elbow). Treatment usually includes anti-inflammatory medications, ice, physical therapy and cortisone injections.
Tendinosis refers to chronic injury of failed healing in tendons. This is usually a result of multiple injuries and chronic inflammation. As an analogy, think of a normal tendon as a bright new shiny rope. In contrast, a tendinopathic tendon would be a frayed rope with multiple holes in it. Tendinosis can cause chronic pain and dysfunction.
Treatment of tendinopathy with stem cells has shown to have benefits in multiple areas of the body, restore the normal integrity of the tendon and reduce pain. Call to schedule an appointment to discuss your treatment options with one of our physicians, and determine if stem cell treatment is appropriate for you.
