Nerve Injuries

A pinched nerve occurs when too much pressure is applied to a nerve by the surrounding tissues. In some cases, the surrounding tissue can be a herniated disk of the spine that compresses a nerve root. In other cases, muscle, tendons and bone can compress the nerve. The pressure causes inflammation of the nerve and can disrupt its function. Examples include carpal tunnel syndrome, radial tunnel syndrome and peroneal nerve entrapment. If pressure continues for long periods of time, permanent nerve damage can occur.
